Fluoride on the ballot in Healdsburg this Tuesday - VOTE NO ON MEASURE P!
On Tuesday November 4th in Sonoma County, Ballot Measure P will allow Healdsburg voters to decide whether or not to stop fluoridating their city’s tapwater. Most residents would like to know more about the issue before voting.
On September 20, 2014, Fluoride-Free Healdsburg sponsored a Community Health Forum at the Healdsburg Regional Library. It was a rare opportunity for the public to ask questions about water fluoridation, and get answers from authorities on the subject.
A brief presentation was followed by an open discussion with the three panelists, Santa Rosa dentist Dr. Laura Gaeta Wilson, Board Certified family practice physician Dr. April Hurley, and special guest Dr. Bill Osmunson, DDS, MPH, Founding Director of the Institute of Comprehensive Dental Studies for Aesthetic Dentistry, Neuromuscular and Craniofacial Pain.
“I should be the last one to criticize anyone for promoting fluoridation because I promoted it for around 25 years. However, I had not previously read both sides of the research for myself.... It took me perhaps 5 years of intense study before I had the courage and confidence to speak up in public against fluoridation of public water... I am confident that most dentists and other medical professionals who still promote fluoridation have not actually read both sides of the literature for themselves.” - Dr. Bill Osmunson, DDS, MPH

Fluoride Lowers Thyroid Function
In an Sonoma County Gazette article titled "Why We Changed Our Minds About Fluoridation" thyroid specialists Richard Shames, MD and Karilee Shames, RN, PhD discuss how their discovery of fluoride's effect on the thyroid gland led them to change their stance on water fluoridation.
"While researching influences on the thyroid gland, we were astounded by the large number of fluoride citations. We were confronted with long lists of articles from scientists around the world reporting in medical journals about the harmful effects of fluoride. We discovered that in the history of history thyroid treatment, fluoride has previously been used by the medical profession to deliberately slow down overactive thyroid glands. At first this data challenged our medical and nursing education. But then we recalled being taught that no substance has just one action on the human body."
Watch Dr. Richard Shames speak to Healdsburg residents about the thyroid/fluoride connection.
Hispanic leaders speak out against fluoridation
The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is the oldest Hispanic civil rights organization in the United States. In September 2011, LULAC passed a resolution opposing fluoridation which states that: 1) Current science shows that fluoridation chemicals pose increased risk to sensitive subpopulations, including infants, the elderly, diabetics, kidney patients, and people with poor nutritional status. 2) Minority communities are more highly impacted by fluorides as they historically experience more diabetes and kidney disease. 3) Minorities are disproportionately harmed by fluorides as documented by increased rates of dental fluorosis.
“The Hispanic community is no longer going to be silent on this issue…(Fluoridation) is about forcing us to be medicated through our drinking water without our consent or full disclosure of the risks.” - Henry Rodriguez, LULAC
Ballot Measure P offers Healdsburg voters the opportunity to STOP water fluoridation. It's just not worth the risk and it should be up to you to decide what to put in your body.
When in doubt, leave it out - VOTE NO ON MEASURE P THIS TUESDAY NOV 4TH!
